Return land to Singur farmers : SC


  • In May 2006 government led by Buddhadeb Bhattacharyya announced that Tata would Nano car project — in Singur
  • 997 acres of land would be allocated.
  • The land would be acquired for the Tata by a state industry promotion agency.


  • The Supreme Court set aside the land acquisition by West Bengal Government in 2006 to facilitate Tata Motors plant
  • Court directed the government to take possession of the land and distribute it to the land owners within 12 weeks
  • Also announced that the farmer’s who got compensation from the government will not return it because they were deprived of their livelihood for the last ten years

Court Observation

  • The actual acquisition was no for the purpose of public investment
  • The state was no given opportunity for the  to raise their concerns and complaints for the land acquisition
  • The acquisition of land affected the livelihood of many farmers

The acquired area

  1. Vast agricultural potential
  2. Deprived against occupation of a large number of land owners/cultivators
  3. Depriving them of constitutional and fundamental right guaranteed under constitution of India

Cabinet nod for permanent residence to FDI investors


  • Union Cabinet approved Permanent Resident Status for investors except those from Pakistan 
  • The PRS is subject to certain relevant condition


  1. 10 year valid with multiple Entry
  2. Invest Rs. 10 crore in 18 months or Rs.25 crore in 36 months
  3. Should generate in employment to at least 20 resident Indian every financial year
  • The aim is to boost foreign investment and facilitate the Make in India programme
  • Centre open up FDI norms for almost all sectors including food manufacturing, Defence, Broadcasting

India-US to share defence facilities

India US signed Logistic Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA). The agreement gives both the country access to each other facilities for supplies and repairs. The agreement is an enabling agreement.


  • Facilitates the provision of logistical support, supplies, and services between the US and Indian militaries on a reimbursable basis
  • Ships and aircraft of the US and India able to use each other bases for refuelling, refurbishment and replenishment
  • The agreement include food, water, billeting, transportation, petroleum, oils, lubricants, clothing, medical services, spare parts and components, repair and maintenance services, training services, and other logistical items and services
  • LEMOA brings these transactions under a framework, which will also streamline the payment system

Benefits of Signing

  • The participant countries needs the facilities at the time of bilateral exercises or at the time of any other cooperative exercises
  • Current situation the country have to pay immediately to access it
  • LEMOA agreement allows for the purchase by establishing a value for the purchase and the terms for payment
  • Enhances operational capacity of our armed forces, including in response to humanitarian crises or disaster relief

Incident of rioting remained almost the same in 2015 as compared to 2104. The report shows communal riots declined. At the same time increase in sectarian riot student riot caste conflict.

National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB)

  • Government agency responsible for the collecting data from and analysing crime in India 
  • Parent department : MHA
  • MHA has entrusted NCRB with a renewed mandate for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System project
  • CCTNS is a project under the government effective policing through e-governance
  • Nation wide online tracking system by integrating more than 14,000 police station
